Fine Food & Wine

I have wanted to share this gorgeous business with you for some time now… ‘BACCHUS fine food & wine’. Located in the picturesque heart of Balmain (Sydney) opposite The London Hotel on Darling Street, it has a strong focus on the little guys; by that I mean little known varietals and small producers of fine food and wine from around the world. Nothing at Bacchus is mass-produced and you certainly won’t find these divine products on the shelves at your local Woolies. With a gourmet selection of products (some of which I can hardly pronounce) from Europe to Africa and closer to home, there really is an exciting range that would delight even a diehard foodie.

If you are more like me and enjoy good food but are not always sure how to use all the products on Bacchus’ shelves, do not fear… Bacchus is owned and operated by providore extraordinaire Kristin Lynch who is extremely talented and knowledgeable in the food and wine field and is on hand to help. Kristin lives and breathes the industry and has not only spent over a decade working as a head chef in some fantastic establishments, but also spent a few years managing the then flagship Sydney store of Jones the Grocers in Woollahra and helping to establish Jones in Abu Dhabi, along with the experience of working with Simon Johnson and the Doltone House Group’s Signorelli Gastronomia. Kristin knows her food and wine and is more than happy to help you create something pretty impressive yourself at home; be it as simple as the perfect cheese and wine match to hosting a dinner party, she is there to share her knowledge and give you guidance.

Bacchus fine food & wine is not only packed with gourmet goodies but it also boasts a pretty impressive range of perfectly matured farmhouse cheeses from home and abroad, and pre-prepared take home meals using only the finest of ingredients and the best organic produce. How about lamb kefta tagine, slow braised beef cheeks, or duck ragu spiked with sherry vinegar for dinner?

So if you’re lucky enough to live close to Balmain, Bacchus fine food & wine is well worth a visit; that is if you’re not already a regular. If Kristin didn’t sound busy enough, she also manages to put her years of restaurant skills to good use and offer an amazing catering service from canapés to fully serviced sit down dinners. Bacchus also hosts regular in store wine tastings and sells daily baked handcrafted Sonoma sourdough.

The Bacchus retail store is open everyday except Monday with a selection of products also available through Bacchus fine food & wine online. If you do happen to venture in and notice some stunning pieces of furniture, like the antique Indian carved doorframe converted into a bookshelf, interesting little trunks and chests filled with produce or a hall table playing host to one of Kristin’s stunning retail displays, you’ll see how Monsoon Living’s furniture can find a home in any space. Enjoy and indulge. Like Bacchus.
