Nestled on the peninsula between the beach and the harbour Newcastle East has many stories to tell. The traditional birthplace of the city and the Hunter region, Newcastle East is a former site of heavy industry and railway yards interspersed amongst historic terraced housing.
As Newcastle has evolved so too has the East End, trading its industrial and working class heritage for a vibrant blend of cafes, bars, restaurants and apartments. Newcastle East is leading the way in the revitalisation of the city, but the layers of history remain in every view.
Amongst it all on the third Saturday of each month Pacific Park plays host to the exciting boutique designer event known to the locals as Hunt & Gather Markets.
Whilst Hunt & Gather is relatively new it has already gained a very cool following with its beautiful mix of stalls ranging from indie designers, jewellers, bespoke floral design, leather craftsman, vintage finds, unique local apparel labels and homewares.
For the foodie in all of us looking for a fun and utterly decadent experience you should check out the delicious vendor Doughheads, where the humble doughnut has been taken apart and reinvented to be extraordinary. Experience the charm of Maudie Mac’s Travelling Teahouse proudly perched on the hillside serving personalised high tea, with tiered trays of delectable bite-sized treats on fine china. Casa de Loco serves up authentic modern Mexican market style, minus the tequila! And of course great coffee to kickstart the day all centered around live music in one of the cities prettiest parks. Sounds like a nice way to spend a Saturday morning!
We have always loved Newcastle East and when we heard about this exciting new market we couldn’t wait to get involved. Our Monsoon Living stall is looking forward to joining the Hunt & Gather Market line-up this coming Saturday 21st June (9am to 2pm) with a small and beautiful range of homewares. Come and say hello and enjoy a morning in this beautiful, historic and vibrant part of our city.
